We collect as little as we can, we don’t track you, and we don’t sell anything to anyone. This page says exactly what happens to the small amount of information the site does handle.

Grown and Made UK CIC is the data controller for this website. We’re a community interest company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales, company number 17415545. You can reach us at hello@grownandmade.uk.
When you suggest a business. The suggestion form asks for details about the business and, optionally, your name, email address and your relationship to it. We use this to check the business against our standards and to come back to you if we need to ask a question. The form is delivered by Formspree, which passes the submission to us by email.
When you email us. We keep the correspondence so we have a record of corrections, right-of-reply requests and evidence about materials.
When you use search. Search runs partly through Google’s Gemini API, which interprets what you typed so we can match it to listings. Your search text is sent to Google for that purpose. It isn’t stored against you or linked to an account — but please don’t type anything personal into a search box, here or anywhere else.
When you simply visit. Our host keeps standard server logs — IP address, browser type, the page requested, the time — for security and reliability. We don’t use them to build a picture of you.
No advertising. No analytics or tracking pixels. No cookies set by us. No profiling, no selling or sharing of data with anyone for marketing, and no mailing list you didn’t ask to join.
The map does store a couple of things in your own browser’s storage — whether you’ve already seen the introduction, and an API key if you have chosen to enter one. That stays on your device and never reaches us.
Running a website means other companies see some data on our behalf, mostly because your browser talks to them directly:
Some of these are based outside the UK, so information may be processed abroad. We rely on the transfer protections in their standard terms, and we send them no more than the task needs.
For running and securing the site, and for researching and publishing listings, our basis is legitimate interests — there is a public interest in an independent, unpaid record of what is actually made and grown here. Where you volunteer your own contact details, we rely on your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.
Suggestions and correspondence are kept while they remain part of the evidence trail behind a listing, so that we can show why a business is tiered the way it is. Ask us to delete your personal details from that record and we will, keeping only the underlying evidence about the business itself.
Almost everything on the map is public information about a business. Where a business trades under someone’s own name — a single-handed potter or jeweller, say — that record may also count as personal information. If you’re that person and you want a detail corrected, or the listing removed altogether, just tell us. We don’t argue about it.
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to what we’re doing with it, or ask us to restrict it. Email hello@grownandmade.uk and we’ll respond within a month.
If you think we’ve handled your information badly, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We’d rather you told us first so we can put it right.
If this policy changes we’ll update the date at the top. Anything significant will be flagged on the page rather than slipped in quietly.
