This policy explains what personal information Grown and Made UK collects, why we collect it, who else handles it and the choices you have. We keep what we collect to a minimum, and we never sell personal information.
Last updated 28 September 2026.
Grown and Made UK CIC is the data controller for this website. We are a community interest company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales, company number 17415545, with our registered office at Unit A, 82 James Carter Road, Mildenhall, Bury St Edmunds IP28 7DE. You can contact us at hello@grownandmade.uk.
Suggesting a business. The suggestion form asks for details of the business, such as its name, website, address and what you know about where its products are made. It also asks for your name, email address and your connection to the business, so that we can follow up if we have a question. Suggestions go into a private review queue that only we can access. They are not published, and your name and email address never appear on the map.
Updating your own listing. Each business we list is sent a private link to a page showing the information we hold about it. If you use that page, we store the changes you make (not a new copy of the whole record), together with your name, email address, any note or tier query you add and, if you move your map pin, its previous and new coordinates. Your pin and address line are published on your listing, and the page tells you this before you edit them. If you work from home, you are welcome to place the pin on your village or nearest town rather than your address. Nothing you submit changes the map automatically; we review every submission first.
Your update link. The link is a convenience rather than a secure login. Anyone who has it can view and edit that one listing, and nothing else. Please treat it as you would any private link, and let us know if you think it has been shared by mistake so that we can issue a new one.
How we obtained business email addresses. To send these links, we collected the contact addresses that businesses publish on their own websites. If you would prefer us not to hold yours, let us know and we will delete it. We will also remove the listing if you ask us to.
Emailing us. We keep correspondence as a record of corrections, right-of-reply requests and evidence about materials.
Using search. Search uses Google’s Gemini API to interpret what you type and match it to listings, so your search text is sent to Google for that purpose. We do not link searches to your name or to an account, but please avoid entering personal information into the search box. If you have accepted analytics cookies, your search terms are also recorded in Google Analytics, as described below.
Using “Near me”. If you use Near me, or search for something “near me”, your browser will ask whether to share your location with the page. If you agree, your location is used only within your browser to sort listings by distance. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, and it is not stored. If you have accepted analytics cookies, we record that the feature was used, but never your location.
Visiting the site. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, including IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time of the request. We use these only for security and to keep the site running reliably.
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used: what people search for, which listings they open and which business websites they visit from the map. We use this information for two purposes: deciding which businesses to research and add next, including searches that return no results; and reporting back to listed businesses on the interest their listing receives.
What we share with businesses. A listed business may receive figures about its own listing, such as how many people viewed it and how many went on to its website. These figures do not identify anyone, and we do not share one business’s figures with another.
Aggregated statistics. We may publish or share statistics drawn from this information, such as the most searched-for product categories, in reports about British making and growing. These statistics are always aggregated and cannot be used to identify you.
Analytics is off by default. Google Analytics is not loaded, and no analytics cookies are set, unless you select Accept on the cookie banner. If you decline or ignore the banner, Google Analytics does not run and we will not keep asking. The site works in exactly the same way whichever you choose.
If you accept. Google sets cookies to recognise your browser across pages and on return visits. Google Analytics does not store IP addresses, and we have turned off its advertising features, including Google Signals, ad personalisation and remarketing. We never send Google your name, your email address or anything you enter into our suggestion or update forms.
Changing your choice. You can change your choice at any time using the cookie settings link in the footer of every page, or in the menu on the map. Clearing this site’s cookies in your browser has the same effect.
We do not show advertising, use advertising pixels or remarketing tags, or build profiles of visitors. We never sell personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. We will not add you to a mailing list unless you ask to join one. We do not try to identify individual visitors, and we never combine analytics data with information you send us through a form.
The site also stores a small amount of information in your browser: your cookie choice, whether you have already seen the map introduction and, if you have entered one, your own API key. This stays on your device and is not sent to us.
We use a small number of service providers to run the site. Some receive information from us; others are contacted directly by your browser when a page loads.
Suggestions sent before September 2026 reached us by email through Formspree, and those messages remain in our inbox. The form no longer uses Formspree.
Some of these providers are based outside the UK, so your information may be processed abroad. Where this happens, we rely on the safeguards set out in each provider’s terms, and we share only what each service needs.
We rely on legitimate interests to run and secure the site, to research and publish listings, and to contact a business at its published address about its own listing. There is a public interest in an independent record of what is genuinely made and grown in the UK. You can object to this processing at any time, and we will stop.
We rely on your consent for the contact details you give us in the suggestion form or on your listing’s update page, and for analytics cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time; for analytics, use the cookie settings link.
We keep suggestions, listing updates and correspondence for as long as they form part of the evidence behind a listing, so that we can show why a business has its tier and what it has told us. If we decide not to list a suggested business, we keep a brief note of that decision so the same business does not need to be researched twice.
If you ask us to delete your personal details from any of these records, we will do so and keep only the evidence about the business itself.
Almost everything on the map is public information about businesses. Where a business trades under an individual’s name, such as a potter or jeweller working alone, its listing may also count as personal information. If that applies to you and you would like any detail corrected, or the listing removed, please contact us and we will act on it promptly.
You have the right to request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, delete it or restrict how we use it. You can also object to how we use it. Email hello@grownandmade.uk and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to put things right first, so please contact us before you do.
We will update the date at the top of this page whenever the policy changes, and we will highlight any significant changes on the page itself.
